I have a single-speed which has 2 options. Fixie like you mentioned and freewheel single-speed.
I allways go with that freewheel as I have handle lever brakes, rear and front.

Guy may well have a freewheel because there is brake lever. But who knows. I KNOW, single-speed boys are allways in the hurry.

PS. I love my single-speed but I also love my life!
