Man Killed After Being Pushed Onto Tracks In Front Of Oncoming Train During Fight In Philadelphia

A man in Philadelphia died when he was pushed onto subway tracks and into the path of an oncoming train during a fight with another man Thursday night. The death occurred blocks away from the University of Pennsylvania at the 34th Street SEPTA station in University City around 4:30 p.m., officials told NBC 10. Disturbing footage captured the moment the two men argued with each other just steps away from the platform’s edge as the train is heard approaching the station. A man wearing a dark coat and black hat lands two punches on the victim, sending the latter to fall and tumble over onto the tracks. Horrified bystanders screamed as the Market-Frankford line train pulled into the station seconds later with the man on the tracks. Medical officials pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police confirmed they were reviewing the video as part of their investigation.The victim has yet to be identified.

“Oh my god, I feel so f–king terrible,” one woman shouts on video before police are seen frantically clearing out the scene.

“We don’t know exactly what took place prior to that to initiate this, but it’s being investigated at this point,” Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi told NBC10.

A person of interest was later taken into custody at 40th Street Station, Massaquoi said. Massaquoi told ABC News Philadelphia the department does not currently have any witnesses despite the video showing multiple people around when the man was struck. Police are asking any witnesses to come forward. The killing is being investigated as a homicide, according to ABC News Philadelphia.

In the uk I think a decent defence would get a manslaughter charge on that one. I think the US equivalent is ‘unlawful act manslaughter’ no? I mean he does look like he was acting in self defence.

Looks like self-defence to me. The deceased was antagonising the other man, just unfortunately when he retaliated, they were right on the edge of the platform. He certainly didn't push the bloke + I doubt even meant for him to fall onto the tracks.

I was wondering where Mike Tyson went when he got out of jail. Dude lost weight on the prison diet but still has a killer 1-2 punch which appears to serve him well as a destination-less rider. I am glad to hear he is finally housebroken, using the trains as his toilet. They do have toilets on those trains?

I'm not sure he would even be charged. He's clearly trying to defend himself and I see no evidence he intended for the deceased to go under the train.
