I'm not really sure how I would have reacted if I saw this happening in front of me. However, considering how preoccupied that guy was stabbing her, I think I would have tried to run up and punt the guy in the face as hard as I could. Then I would most likely run because if it didn't knock him out then he'd probably be coming after me!

It's not like the US where you have any rights to defend yourself, the goverment is crazy about retaining monopoly on violence.
