I don't think the perp's gun was fake. First he appears to get 1 shot off that may have hit the good guy. This might be why he ran off. Why would she come back for the gun if it was fake? Secondly, the girl took a round through her arm, that likely continued through into the bad guy. He clearly took one to the thoracic spine as he was obviously paralyzed from the chest down.
