This happened 9/28/21 about 3 miles from my house. Corvette Z06 in center lane drops a gear and throttles down. The 36 year old driver had the car only 2 days and the rear tires were bald. He lost control, crossed the center divider and was hit by a F-150 directly in the driver door. Car was split into multiple pieces. My friend owns a towing company and was on scene for cleanup.

in dry weather, unless the tyres are worn down to the canvas, bald tyres are better than brand new ones

the only reason tyres have tread (and therefore less surface area) is to dissipate standing water on the road, which in turn means the tyre is directly on the road, and not water

without tread, they have more surface area and therefore more grip - hence why racing cars use slick tyres


it is hard to tell from the video, but it almost looks like only one wheel was spinning which is surprising . . . still a dick move even if it was mechanical, but the lack on tread on the tyres would not have caused the accident

Happened to me once. underestimated the torque of my chevy trailblazer... cruising along nicely then i want to try to accelerate quickly by flooring the pedal. tire spun faster without getting proper traction and the vehicle veered to the side. lucky no other vehicle from the opposite lane. wont to it again.

Officials responded to a deadly crash on US 41 near County Road in Estero around 5:30 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

Estero Fire Rescue crews confirmed two others were taken to the hospital. Another person was also injured but refused treatment, according to firefighters.

The 36-year-old Bonita Springs driver sped up and lost control on US 41 crossing over into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway patrol.

A 44-year-old Estero man driving a pickup truck crashed into the car as it crossed over a median and into his lane of traffic.

The Bonita Springs man was pronounced dead on the scene, investigators said.

The passenger in the pickup truck, a 43-year-old Estero woman was seriously injured in the crash, troopers said. An 8-year-old child was also in the truck but was uninjured.

Debris from the crash hit two other cars.

US 41 was shut down in the area for hours as Florida Highway Patrol troopers and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office conducted their investigation at the scene.

Crews did confirm the crash was between a Corvette and an F-150 pickup truck.

FHP is continuing to investigate the crash.

"Chocolate slide" straight into Hell. Would be more satisfying if the corvette exploded in flames like Buford Pusser's 1974 corvette. Was the corvette trying to make a left turn at the intersection?

Good thing a heavy pickup was there to stop the corvette's crime spree, a family in a lesser weight vehicle might have been killed.
