I don't know if I would agree with you or neanderthot. Yes, there are a high number of violent videos that come out of Brazil. No one would refute that. But when was the last time you saw a video include someone who was otherwise Brazilian? Especially a tourist. I don't recall seeing any grim videos with tourists in them. Have you?
My point is that if you go to Brazil as a tourist as opposed to living there, your experience and interactions with people will be worlds apart. If you went as a tourist, you would probably end up going to touristy areas and hotspots.
Most of that gruesome stuff that we see happens to people who live there and in the favelas. Just some food for thought.
(As a side comment: Videos that included violence (not necessarily death but the corrupt Thai police cover those kinds of deaths up to not discourage tourism) involving tourists seemed to have come more out of Thailand than any other country I've noticed. Some Thais (pre-covid) really looked with disdain on tourists. )
