First, they are supposed to match threat to threat. A knife is deadly force. It may not seem that way, "bring a knife to a gun fight", but it is. Look up Tueller Drill. That explains a lot of what happened here from a training perspective.

You'd probably have a knife sticking out of your body too. She was acting extremely crazy, and if you're familiar with crazy people and tasers you'd know that sometimes they have no effect on them. And she was basically charging him, he had enough time to do 1 thing. Only a moron would choose to use a non lethal weapon in that situation. If it doesn't work, and work immediately, you don't have time to pull your other weapon. Cops aren't going to take off running around as they're being chased by someone with a knife trying to kill them. So yes, HE HAD TO SHOOT HER. It's pretty universal, grab a knife chanting some diabolical shit while chasing after someone armed. You're going to get shot 9 times out of 10. Because 10% of people are too dumb to have situational awareness. |

Yeah, you're right. I was meaning, match it with the next thing up, but I see how it reads. That was my point though. That's the point of the Tueller Drill. You have to shoot someone with a knife.
