Re: Cop Kills Female Suspect Armed with a Knife

- Multiple warnings from the cop pointing a gun at her ✓
- Literally brought a knife to a gun fight ✓
- Verbally threatening the cop ✓
- Physically threatening the cop ✓
- Dumb as fuck ✓
- Got what she was asking for ✓
Result: A+ for the cop.

And WTF did she think would happen?
I sincerely hope the cop doesn't feel bad about shooting that nut job, because he shouldn't.
HE DID NOT HAVE TO FIRE A GUN. EVEN I WOULD HAVE JUST TAZED HER AND TAKEN THE KNIFE AND TAKEN HER INTO CUSTODY AND IM NOT EVEN TRAINED TO DO IT. WHAT A PARANOID SOB!

Or he could have done this...
Why don't you try that and record it for us?

Re: Cop Kills Female Suspect Armed with a Knife

I'm pretty sure that could have ended in dozens of different ways that allows her to live

He took a shot while there was a driver behind them

Why didn't he use a taser

Why didn't he stay in the vehicle and wait for backup

Why didn't he just soot in the leg, she obviously suicide by cop
Using a taser is not always effective in neutralizing a threat. For this reason, you will almost never see videos or hear of any confrontations where an officer deploys a taser or some other non-lethal use of force unless said officer has backup on the scene against an armed suspect. The reason for this is that the backup officer has the option to use deadly force if non lethal force fails to achieve its intended purpose. This is why you often hear the police saying "non lethal" or "lethal" whenever there is more than one officer at the scene.

However, when there is only one officer at the scene, then what options does the officer have if non lethal fails, especially when someone is armed with a weapon and closing in? Unfortunately, this creates an unacceptable risk to the officer's safety and therefore his/her only option when there is no backup is to deploy deadly force.

Most people do not understand the intended purpose of "deadly force" and what it is defined as. The one thing most people get wrong is that deadly force is not intended to kill someone. What is intended for is to "neutralize a threat to the point that such a threat can no longer threaten the safety of another police officer or victim."

The means to neutralizing a threat is to do so as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially since bodily harm or death from an attacker can happen within seconds. There is a recent example of a man who was shot several times in the chest by a police officer who kept coming closer to the officer in spite of being hit many times here on DR. The event happened in Montgomery County Maryland, about 45 min away from where I live.

This is why police aim for the chest or even the head at very close ranges. They do not know whether or not the person they are dealing with is amped up on drugs or too much adrenaline to the degree that a leg shot will be ineffective at stopping the threat to their safety. The bottom line is that the goal is not to kill someone, it is to neutralize a threat to safety as quickly and efficiently as possible and unfortunately this often results in death.

Either way, police are trained to do this, and it is less of a personal matter (not always as we have seen with dirty cops) and more of a procedural matter outlined by municipal, state, and federal guidelines. Perhaps more emphasis should be placed on non lethal means, and I can definitely entertain the idea of that. But, the use of deadly force is far more a sociopolitical matter than it is a moral issue with how a cop handled a confrontation. Not always, as we have seen with rogue cops. But, even so, such incidents are far more the exception than the norm in spite of the media's propensity to exaggerate a greater problem. Either way, it is the politicians you should be blaming with how police conduct themselves on the job because it is the politicians who decide what the "rules of engagement" are in the end even though they never want to admit that.

In this situation here, I would expect that non lethal force may have been used if this officer had backup, but without any backup, that simply is not an option, especially when there are too many unknown variables in situations like this.

I’m just happy he didn’t scream hysterically at her—this is the type of low-key bravery I would like to see more of in our cops.

Re: Cop Kills Female Suspect Armed with a Knife

I have seen a LOT of suicide by cop on this site, but something is different here.
What could it be?
I'll list some stuff...
The cop remained calm. Professional the whole time.
He didn't empty his magazine into her.
Now what could the next one be?
Hmmmmm.
Could it be that her name (Probably) wasn't Shalondra?
Can the community help me out with this one?
I don't know, I just find it...Unsettling.
Why is this-literally- The ONLY time I've seen a suicide by cop go this way? Hell, she might have actually lived, it looked like a gut shot.
