Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Mentally Ill Man

Sad situation... cops did the best with a mental health crisis, that ends up being dealt with by men carrying guns, rather than doctors.

This guy should have not been at home and under care in some institution.

I don't think that just because someone is crazy, has a mental break, or is high on drugs, they deserve to die. You can't put that crap on law enforcement, and not expect something like this to possibly happen.
Yeah

If this indeed was to help someone who was suicidal - obviously armed with a harmful weapon - and WILL respond to intervention in a threatening manner due to destructive state of mind, why send the police??

Medical professionals are usually called upon in mental health crisis'.

Armed police shouting at him, I don't see how that was a correct way to deal with that situation?

Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Mentally Ill Man

The officer did everything he could, he said drop the knife about thirty times, and shocked him about five times to keep the man from hurting himself and others, and when he charged at the officer, there was no other choice but to open fire, and given the fact that he had mental health issues is a real problem, normally a person would only need a couple of rounds to drop them, but someone with mental health issues can be punched and beaten and just stand there,

Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Mentally Ill Man

Job well done, BUT, a few less bullets would have been enough. Or at least shoot a few times, he fell / was numb, if he then stands up again shoot again. He was already laying on the ground and pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop .. hmm .. overkill.

Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Mentally Ill Man

Better a few extra 'security' rounds to be sure than not enough rounds and the assailant gets a chance to attack the cop.

The assailant might have had a gun in that room. The cop had no idea what the guy had.

Great job, officer.

Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Mentally Ill Man

I get that the cop was doing what he was trained for and the situation was hectic but really? Was there a need to empty all the bullets from the gun into him? I don't understand why just one or two shots to more non-lethal areas of the body wouldn't be enough to stop a man.
