In older times people with mental illnesses and physical deformities were killed or left to die. That is the natural order of things. When an orange is deformed at Wal-Mart they throw it out. If the natural order was allowed to run its course people like this wouldn't even exist.  |

Aren't cops trained in martial arts and self defense? I'm sure they are given a background in something of that nature. Why couldn't he disarm the knife from the guy. It was clear that he was unstable and trying to harm himself. Whether or not he was going to harm the police was questionable, so I understand the way they handled the situation. However, the guy was convulsing in the bath tub after being electrocuted multiple times. I can understand if the one officer doesn't want to just reach in and grab the knife, but if several of the police there all contained him while he was nearly having a seizure, they could have surely disarmed him. Tasers and guns aren't the only extensions of control. These police need to start using their bodies.

Its tough, mental illness combined with electricity surging could have made it difficult to have the man release the knife, but without special gear like they use in prison for situations like that with crazy people, they really had no choice.

EMTs and paramedics go in after police because often people who REALLY want to hurt themselves have no problem hurting someone trying to help.
