Cop Fatally Shoots Guy Holding Up Phone when Emerging from Friend's Garage
The police chief of Columbus, Ohio, recommended on Thursday that the officer who shot and killed A.H, a 47-year-old Black man, earlier this week be fired. Police Chief Thomas Quinlan said in a statement that he filed two departmental charges alleging critical misconduct against officer Adam Coy in the death of A.H after an expedited investigation. His recommendation for termination now goes to the city’s public safety director; a hearing is scheduled for Monday. Quinlan expressed heartbreak that A.H cannot celebrate Christmas with his family and rejected any criticism that he might be making a rush to judgment. “Like all of you, I witnessed his critical misconduct firsthand via his body-worn camera,” he said. “I have seen everything I need to see to reach the conclusion that Officer Coy must be terminated, immediately.” Video showed A.H emerging from a garage and holding up a cellphone in his left hand seconds before he was fatally shot by an officer identified as Coy early Tuesday. About six seconds pass between the time the victim is visible in the video and when the officer fires his weapon. There is no audio because the officer hadn’t activated the body camera; an automatic “look back” feature captured the shooting without audio. Coy was notified of the charges against him Thursday, Quinlan said, which come in an investigation into his unreasonable use of deadly force, failure to activate his body camera and failure to help the victim after he was shot. The firing recommendation came as public pressure in the case mounted. Demonstrators also gathered in a cold Christmas Eve drizzle to call for justice in his death. Chants of “Whose street? Our street!” rang out from the small crowd that gathered near the home the victim was visiting when he was shot. Some waved Black Lives Matter flags. Quinlan said an investigation is being conducted into the other officers who responded to the non-emergency call that ended in him being shot, who he said also appear to have either failed to activate their body cameras or to render him aid. He said any others who violated department protocols will be held accountable. |

Perps are so fucking interested in filming the cops in the 'hopes' they get martyered or get something good on camera to be hero, they don't realize holding a hard object in your hand is threatening. Look at any scene with blacks getting arrested, like a swarm of bees holding cell phones cussing and chattering and filming, doing everything they can to disrupt and confuse. Look at his hand, especially when the light hits the phone - you can't tell what the fuck it is. He was just so intent on doing what 'he wanted' to do instead of simply complying with the orders. Well, good job asshole. Now the country gets cornholed for another two weeks over your selfishness and you get shot. |

Cops these days trained to overkill. How could he have mistaken the phone for a weapon? |

I have watched a video of a naked suspect who killed three people, stole a police car nd led them on a chase without one single bullet fired at him. Now, let's guess what color the perp was? Your reasoning is severely flawed but you're obviously a bootlicking pig fucker

Another shiteater gets fired and ducks any kind of punitive action, once again. You could wave a banana in a cops direction and he'd think gun. |

real cops don’t freak out and shoot people because they have a phone in their hand. take a look at the toronto van attack. the incel dude who perpetrated that had a plan of pulling out his wallet and pretending to have a gun at the end in order to die by the police. the cop easily recognized it wasn’t a gun and just ordered the guy to the ground and arrested him.

Re: Cop Fatally Shoots Guy Holding Up Phone when Emerging from Friend's Garage
Yes. But are you trying to say that people have no responsibility not to temp fate when it comes to a cop giving them instructions? Sue later, complain later, the cops all have body cams, view it later, but why fuck around and be thick headed by trying to shove a phone in their face? If the new rule is people (especially people of color) can do whatever they fuck they want in the face of an armed officer of the law, then this will have no choice but to keep happening. Having police to enforce order in our communities is a good decision, up there with getting shit out of our food before we eat it. Necessary and imperfect but why make it so much harder just because some have a persecution complex?
