He is not in pain because he is in shock. A few months ago I was stabbed all over my body and I felt no pain. I could feel the holes and slashes with my fingers, but felt no pain at all. Ah, but five minutes later I knew my lung had been stabbed because it felt like it was on fire.

The weird thing is that I was acting weird like that guy. I also touched my wounds, wanting to feel what had happened to me physically. It may seem stupid to others, but when you're badly hurt like that, your brain wanders.
