Re: China - Student Who Just Graduated Jumps To His Death

Did some further research, and found out that the economy in China really sucks right now, and all the people who did nothing but study for the last 10 years of their lives are feeling betrayed. There are MILLIONS more degreed individuals than there are available jobs for them, with the result that many wind up taking menial jobs just to survive. Once they have worked a menial job for a year or so, they are stuck in that kind of job for life, because job slots for degreed people are VERY competitive, and if you got a degree a couple years ago, and did nothing since, you can't get back onto the track in banking, industry, trade, etc. It's like going to Harvard, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and then discovering that no one will hire you, and you are past your expiration date when it comes to upper level jobs anywhere, so you wind up packing boxes at Amazon. Your relatives all find you a disappointment, and you have no chance at getting married to anyone beautiful, as they are rare because of the one-child laws that promoted male children, and are reserving themselves for future wealthy executive men and won't even talk to someone on your new low level. So if you are a guy, you are doubly fucked. Of course, women, being rare, can hook up with a rich guy and have a good life anyway.

And you only have 50 years to go. Have a nice life. This is a REALLY bad time to be a graduate from a Chinese college.

On top of that, the government's advice is for them to "stop being arrogant, and apply themselves to any honest job" The government refers to that as "taking off the robe and putting on the working clothes" and says they should stop complaining and get used to it.

Actual Chinese government figures are that 20% of all college degree graduates cannot find any employment in their field of expertise.

Actual Chinese government figures are that 20% of all college degree graduates cannot find any employment in their field of expertise.
Wow, it sounds like the situation in China is truly mind-boggling! The economy is in such a wacky state that highly educated individuals are left feeling betrayed and lost. I can picture it now: a swarm of overqualified graduates desperately scrambling for the few available jobs, their diplomas gathering dust while they reluctantly take up menial jobs just to make ends meet.

It's like a surreal comedy-drama where Harvard graduates end up as professional box packers at Amazon, constantly battling societal disappointment and their own self-doubt. Their dreams of high-flying careers in banking, industry, or trade are shattered, and they find themselves stuck in an alternate reality where their expiration date for success has somehow expired.

And the love lives of these poor graduates! It's a tragicomedy of its own. The scarcity of beautiful, marriageable women due to the one-child policy has created an elite dating market, reserved exclusively for future wealthy executive men. It's as if the dating pool has turned into a game of musical chairs, and these graduates are left standing without a chance.

But wait, there's a glimmer of hope for women! In this topsy-turvy world, rare female graduates can seek solace by snagging a rich guy and living a life of luxury. It's like a reverse Cinderella story, where the shoe fits perfectly, and they escape the turmoil that plagues their male counterparts.

To add insult to injury, the government's advice to these struggling graduates is to abandon their arrogance and embrace any honest job they can find. It's as if the government is forcing them to strip off their robes of academic achievement and don the working clothes of labor. They are urged to stop complaining and simply accept their fate, like characters trapped in a Kafkaesque nightmare.

Official statistics reveal that a staggering 20% of college degree holders cannot find employment in their field of expertise. This revelation only deepens the absurdity of the situation, highlighting the stark contrast between aspirations and reality.

In the face of such a calamitous predicament, one can't help but wonder what other strange twists and turns await these graduates in their 50-year journey ahead. The only thing we can do is strap ourselves in, brace for the unknown, and wish them the best of luck as they navigate this truly bizarre period in China's history.
