The scooter that hit the truck was equipped with an upright pole terminating just below eye height. I guess it was a cell phone holder.
No, it's a Staff of Minor Shield with +10 Damage Reduction and +5 Luck.

Didn't help against the truck though.. they get +10 Critical Damage per hit and a chance to Negate Shield.

While it is true that the scooter crossed right behind a departing truck, the rider should have seen that oncoming truck soon enough to at least brake. Instead, the rider was giving it gas for the whole crossing as if there was no truck. I think the rider was distracted by his phone.
Damn! I just learned something new on DR, again: people drive around with a cell phone holder on a pole at eye level??? I had no idea. It's like loading your .45 revolver with one bullet and spinning and clicking as you ride your bike and watch Mandarin soap operas!
