Yeah, unless he’s rich or comes from an esteemed family, he’s done.

I don’t know how I feel about that eye-for-an-eye mentality. I remember a case where a guy was working and an enemy of his came to his job to fight him. The worker ended up killing the assailant. Now, you would think that this would be an open-and-shut case of self defense, but nope, he was sentenced to death.

The reason this story was is the news (as well as why my professor selected it as one of our assignments) is because the victim’s mother pleaded with the judge to spare the life of murderer. I’ll never forget this case because even my professors were all in agreement that he (and anyone else) who kills someone should automatically be sentenced to death no matter the circumstances. It was infuriating to hear this logic in-person and not be able to challenge the professors.

In the end, he was sentenced to life in prison and I still remember the video of his mother kowtowing before the victim’s mother in court saying, “You saved my son’s life!” and my teachers saying the guy was extremely lucky and should have been killed.

as corrupt as the justice system is in China, hard to get away with stuff like this these days. Xi Jin Ping maybe a dictator, but he reformed much of the old ways.

As far as the way things are done, yes I agree it's kind of strange. Like the self defense problem, the traffic laws are very dumb. The fault always lies with the stronger... meaning on foot the weakest, scooter stronger, bike stronger, car stronger, truck... ect you get the idea. so when I am driving I have to be on the look out for fucking 3 man on a scooter running a red light... speaking from experience. My green light and if I run those fuckers over, im at fault.
