Re: Child Saved but Mother Dies when Escalator Floor Panel Collapses
Oh the panels are coming loose at the top here? Let's just stand up here and look at it and let someone walk over it to see what happens. Oh this woman is being eating alive and slowly crushed, fuck that stop button, lets just walk away. Morons |

Re: Child Saved but Mother Dies when Escalator Floor Panel Collapses
That's where the motor is located for the stairs. It pulls the up, its the only way it will work. There were probably maintenance workers that had just worked on it and didn't secure the trap dor correctly. That's my read.

Re: Child Saved but Mother Dies when Escalator Floor Panel Collapses
judging by this picture, the motor is likely to be on the far side. the woman slid into the outside of the cycle so her survival would only depend on the clearance in that cavity. she probably survived with some disabling injuries. especially if her foot got caught in the chain/belt drive from motor to escalator thingamajigs.

Re: Child Saved but Mother Dies when Escalator Floor Panel Collapses
those employees probably dont know how. from where i am from, most malls, they put those buttons in hidden areas without any warning in case of emergencies. from the longer video, i'd say they noticed the flaw, made a report to the maintenance and seeing they went back, they are probably waiting for the repair team to point out the problem. their misjudgement in assessing the gravity of that problem played a big role in that incident. if they thought it could be that fatal, they would probably have made someone shut it down.
