A bit of context and perspective on this. The TOZ-35 is a Freepistol and very unlike a regular firearm. I own one and shot Olympic FP and Airpistol since 1980. First off, there is no excuse for what happened. This guy is an idiot and broke the cardinal rule of the muzzle staying downrange and never crossing the firing line. However, what happend can easily be understood if you're familliar with a FP. Unlike any other weapon that has trigger pull weights of several pounds, a FP has a single stage trigger that is set in a few ounces. Most shooters set the sear breakpoint at barely a touch. I've seen some that were set so sensitive that a fast rise from the station fired the pistol. Regarding this guy, he's no novice and must have plenty experience. Nobody starts with FP and usually move there after many years of Airpistol which is probably the closest. This is a very difficult and demanding sport that has a lot of uncontrollable variables. I'd have to rule out inexperience here and attribute idiocy. Another thing. FP's are not owned by gun nuts nor do people who participate in Olympic/ISU disciplines. One would never find such a weapon in a gun shop. It would be difficult to find many who participate in these sports to be advocates for defensive or hunting gun ownership. As a group, they are highly in favor of restrictive gun control and carry somewhat a dim view of pro-gun organizations like the NRA and very liberal in their thinking. These are Zen like sports and the mindset is very different from conservative gun nuts. While you can't own a handgun in many countries, you can own a FP, even in the UK. Most all restrictive countries allow thier ownership with restrictions on travel and where they are kept. The most restrictive countries require they be kept at a club or institution. This could have happened in any country and not a crazy ass country like states. No malice or ignorance on this guy's part, just stupidity. Just watching him in the moments before he took postion, it's obvious to someone in the discipline to see that he's well familliar with what he's doing and no novice. This is obviously a posh club setting and not a typical range. No way in hell would a complete ignoramous be allowed to shoot FP without years of experience in an institution like this. If he split, he freaked out. |

And yet the developed countries that don't sell guns like candy don't have all this stupid shit happening amongst its civilians ALL the fucking time. It's hilarious how proud you are, personally I am much happier living in a country where we don't need a whoooole lot of guns to be safe. |

I don't NEED guns to be safe, I CHOOSE to have guns to be safe. And if you think you're safe just because of where you live, you're in for a reality check...and hopefully not by ending up on this site.

That you need guns to be safe is where the problem is. Where I live I am completely say the crime is low and, guess what, no guns. None. The problem is that as America has made guns so easy to obtain, and with so many nutters out there, its a recipe for disaster and it tends to be schools etc. that pay for it. I mean who teaches a 9yr old girl to use an automatic weapon. What is wrong with that picture ? She should be playing with dolls not weapons. If you can't see an issue there then its already too late (which we know it is). And why anyone would need a house full of guns... beggars belief. There's being safe and then there's trying to be the guy with the biggest dick. |
