India. On Tuesday, 42-year-old businessman S. T. was killed in a hit-and-run accident on his first day of cycling for fitness near Mumbai. The accident occurred on an under-construction and officially unopened stretch of the road.

The victim owned several garment shops and recently purchased a bicycle just a day or two earlier and was on his very first ride to lose weight when he was struck.

The car was driven by a 17-year-old minor and following the accident, the teenager fled the scene and posted on social media that he had a small accident and feared being scolded by his father, who is a practicing lawyer. That post was later deleted.

Police detained the minor and produced him before a juvenile court, which sent him to a remand home.

An FIR has also been registered against his mother, K.Y.P, who is the registered owner of the vehicle.

Residents have expressed outrage over the safety of the road, noting it has become a hotspot for reckless driving and stunts. Questions have been raised regarding how the minor accessed a vehicle and who removed the barricades from the incomplete road.
