Re: Canadian Man That Joined ISIS
Think about it this way. If a child born into ISIS abandoned their family, fled to Canada & decided to join the Canadian military, taking up arms to fight against ISIS & began murdering ISIS members, would you find that so unfathomable & terrible??? All we've done is reverse sides & reverse the POV. Same story though. A different POV would maintain that people who travel to another country that has nothing to do with them & then start murdering people there, messing with their politics & controlling the way the locals do things could also be viewed as terrorists. Chris Columbus & his cronies could be considered terrorists from a very valid POV, as would the western militaries taking action in the Middle East solely because of their oil & energy concerns. I can empathise with the feelings that might lead one to such a decision, and young people are just at that point in their life where they're searching for something to be a part of, finalising their identity, etc. so the desire to be part of something seemingly positive & bigger than oneself is understandable. It's all simply a matter of perspective, dependent on which side of the fence you happen to be sitting on. |
