Couldn't they hold their breath and just 'glide' (knees up, chest full of air) down the river? I recon it was the rocks that pummeled them to .... death.... RIP.... (Bet I could have made that out alive. I used to jump into those for fun in Africa)  |

Romans required their engineers to bring their entire family and sleep under the bridge for a week after building it. Would have prevented this for sure.
