(aftermath) E. C. C, 31, was killed in an accident last tuesday in Oxnard, California. The collision was reported around 11:10 a.m. as the victim was riding northbound on the tracks near the Oxnard Transit Center.

An Amtrak Pacific Surfliner approached from behind sounded its horn several times, according to the Oxnard Police Department, but the cyclist remained on the tracks and the train could not stop in time.

The accident occurred about 100 yards south of the transit center.

The victim died at the scene of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner.

Suicide was not suspected as according to witness accounts, the cyclist was wearing a hood over his head, which may have affected his ability to hear the approaching train, they said.

Police investigators found no headphones or earbuds at the scene, officials said.

Do they really think wearing a simple hood could block out the sound of a train horn? I cross train tracks everyday. When the engines come by, I have all my windows up and usually turn up the volume on the radio pretty loud and the train’s horns are still pretty deafening.

Also, who rides on the tracks? I ride rollers and those bitches are hard to stay on. Riding the tracks makes no sense. Riding the wheel track would be a feat for even an experienced competitive bicyclist.
