Not that it mattered at that point, but the bus driver sure did take his time backing the bus off of the guy, slowly crushing his arm and hand in the process.

True. Bundles of nerves in the neck which appears was the resting point of the van. It is only a reflex. You see this type of thing often with beheadings when cutting becomes sawing to cut through the spinal column. Regardless, I completely agree with you, any movement is disturbing, rational or not.
