Re: Burned Skeletons in Paradise, CA Fire
His commentary made it so much more devestating and real. I cannot imagine. I have a medical alert dog & 2 cats, so even when I think about being an idiot with my own life I would evacuate super early just to spare them dying.

Re: Burned Skeletons in Paradise, CA Fire
Esp with all the crazy shit I do all the time! Ride dirt bike like I stole it, go into abandoned mines at least once/twice a week, work with heavy and farm equipment...yeah you never think it'll be you next till it is. This fire happened so fast the evac warning came and a few hours later it was to late. You can't get 20,000+ people out of anywhere that fast, I'm amazed the death toll stands at 12 and not 12,000. |

Re: Burned Skeletons in Paradise, CA Fire
Death toll is now up to 23 as of the last press conference. I imagine there will be a lot more. This was a small town surrounded by trees. As I posted earlier, there are only about four roads that residents could have escaped from (the roads leading north of town go to Magalia, which was also affected by the fire). Given how quickly the fire spread, like someone else posted, I wouldn't be surprised if the death toll was even higher. It was also a town with a large population of retired folks - some with limited mobility (personal and vehicle-wise). Growing up near this area, I still have a number of friends that live in this area and while most of them have been accounted for, their homes were not spared. This is reality though - it's gruesome, and I don't mean disrespect to those affected - it's just the reality of how quickly things can get out of hand. A lot of times, evacuation orders go out and people still play the "wait and see" game. There's other videos of the scene where cars and buses were abandoned on the main highway out of town - some people got out of their cars and ran for their lives on foot. My friend filmed a clip (which I won't share here without his permission) of him driving down Skyway (one of the main roads out of Paradise) with fire and ash falling on both sides of the road. His car had various parts of it melting by the time he reached Chico (a city near Paradise). This isn't some third world country where a lot of these DR videos are from. This is California. |

Well, I don't know how accurate our news is being thousands of miles away, but Brit media are reporting 25 confirmed deaths and a 110 still missing.

Re: Burned Skeletons in Paradise, CA Fire
Was you there? No, you wasn't. Did you know her? No, you didn't. Body dysmorphia is a bitch. Men have a distorted and unrealistic idea of what women should look like without make-up on and they do ridicule women they perceive as not fitting their ideal. The actions of this woman is typical body dysmorphia behaviour. I know a woman who was bullied badly for the way she looked when she was younger. She had to evacuate her house when the banks burst on a river, back when some parts of the UK flooded some years ago. She actually left her house with a mask on because she wasn't wearing make-up. It's not about being pretty or vanity. It's a mental illness. They think they're ugly like monsters. A little compassion costs nothing. |

I live in San Francisco down by AT&T Ball Park. The smoke from these fires have blown into SF. The air smells like burnt wood and it's very hazy. R.I.P. all those who didn't make it.
