As an aside, history has kinda borne out he was innocent or at least only guilty of trusting his dear friend the Candy Man, who hung the charges on him... he was a smart guy. If he resigned as state Treasurer he would have gone to prison & his family would have lost everything... this way, dying in office, his wife received his pension as a state employee.
