History is not science. It's a common mistake people make for proof that we are violent by nature.

We simply react to our environment.

If you're raised in a caring, loving environment filled with abundance then you will share and reflect those traits.

If you're raised in an environment where for example food is scarce and causes conflicts between tribes etc. then you will likely be more aggressive towards others.

The idea that early humans engaged in lots of tribal warfare and murder is now known to be untrue. It was more of a sharing/trading situation with many working together.

There may be a violent gene but it will need an environmental trigger in order for it to surface.

I don't believe a chimp or a human would kill for fun unless they have some kind of brain defect or have been raised in an environment that would influence that behaviour.

Do you have evidence for chimps killing for fun? I'd be very interested to look at it.

BTW, your logic is circular. You argue that if they kill for fun, their brains are defective. Think about that position. It is like saying, "Evidence that is against my position is defective because it is against my position and therefore against the correct position."

You want me to support that as far back as hunters and gatherers humans were not killing each other but working together and sharing?

I use that as it goes against the history people so quickly bring up as evidence of humans violent nature. I would say the opposite is true and that we have no nature, only environmental influences.

You say the chimps killed for fun...then you say political gain. From what I understand chimps kill for many reasons...but I've never heard any killing for fun.

I did check out Demonic Males and it seems it's a typical nature vs nuture argument which modern science is pretty agreed that environmental conditions are needed even for genetic traits to surface. Would you like me to provide evidence of this also?

What I'm trying to say is that if chimps or humans do kill for fun then it is an environmental influence of some kind that creates that behaviour. If it's some kind of illness(mental) passed on genetically it would need an environmental trigger in most, if not all cases.
