A 49-year-old woman, Maria J.M., was found dead inside her home after being attacked by the family’s pitbull while giving the dog a bath.

Maria's 61-year-old partner arrived home to discover her body with severe mauling injuries. The dog, which the couple had owned for about two years after adopting it as an adult, was still aggressive and prevented him from approaching, forcing him to lock himself in a room for safety.

Firefighters attempted to contain the animal using restraint equipment, but failed due to its size and high level of aggression. Police ultimately shot the dog dead to neutralize the threat.

Neighbours said that the pitbull had shown aggressive behaviour on previous occasions and that the couple had been warned about potential risks.

Once at my job a pit ran up and bit my throat and held on very gently. I was on the floor working on another dog. Anyway it was very frightening for that moment. The dog let me go.
