According to the city government, the incident began after a report from a couple who said they had been assaulted by a man who punched and kicked their vehicle after they refused his request for financial help. The couple stated that the man was acting aggressively and could pose a danger to others.

Following the report, municipal agents went to the scene to advise the man and take him to the police station, but he refused to comply with their orders and attacked the officers. In an attempt to restrain him, they first fired a non-lethal weapon and, as the aggression continued, then used a firearm.

The man was immediately assisted by the agents themselves and taken to Lagarto University Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Still according to the city government, the officers will be suspended until the conclusion of an internal investigation that will review the details of the case.
