~ The person died most likely from sharks eating at him, after he got drunk, became a brave fisherman, & went most perhaps for a skinny dip swim. Maybe also to test his watch to see if it really was waterproof or water resistant, just to know the difference.

~ Looks like he was around his mid 30's deducing from the froth of hair left on his head, & was of a stocky build, so there was plenty of meat to go around.
~ Those young ones already know it's a bad luck curse to steal stuff from a dead person, especially if they died in a most horrible way. Which is why they're supposed to take/steal/borrow it while the person is still alive.
