That´s what i´m talking about. AFAIK the front of a tank has the strongest armor. There was a similar video from another conflict where the grenade bounced away from the tank and destroyed a car parked nearby. All the dust did make it easy to sell it as success on the internet.

What would happen if the rocket detonated under the tank? How thick is that armor? Anybody know exactly what kind of tank it was?

Since its Syria, Im guessing its a T72 (as far as I know most middle eastern armies have those, only Israel has their own tanks). I dont know how T72s do against RPGs though.

Its not your "usual" RPG 7, more likely more advanced version RPG-29 or something that can easily cut down a tank without modern armour.
Dont quote me on that, but still the tank was a total kill, ammo exploded and gastanks went too.

A video uploaded to various web sites shows a man firing an RPG-29, then cuts to show a projectile striking the rear of the tank, penetrating its armor and causing the tank's ammunition to cook off.[11] However, still images taken from the video seem to indicate that whatever projectile hit the tank is not, in fact, a PG-29V rocket as is fired from the RPG-29.[citation needed] It remains unclear what destroyed the tank.

Says rear of the tank, but in this vid it shows the front of the tank being hit, hence there is atleast another one.
