I agree but his brain is no longer attached as far as I can tell. It makes me wonder whether the body and mind are two separate entities.

The brain stem is intact, so the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system are working but there are no superior brain functions, he is a vegetable, alive but unaware of its existence.
