Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

UPDATE:
Australia's domestic intelligence agency, ASIO, examined Bondi gunman Naveed Akram six years ago for his close ties to a Sydney-based Islamic State group (IS) terrorism cell.

The ABC understands investigators from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) believe the gunmen had pledged allegiance to the IS terrorist group.

An IS flag was found in the men's car at Bondi Beach, according to a senior JCTT official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The official said ASIO took an interest in Naveed Akram six years ago, after police foiled plans for an IS terrorist attack.

The ABC understands ASIO started looking into the man soon after the July 2019 arrest of IS terrorist Isaak El Matari in Sydney.

The official said Mr Akram was closely connected to Mr Matari, who is serving seven years' jail for planning an IS insurgency as the self-declared Australian commander of the terrorist group.

Mr Matari was part of an IS cell with several other Sydney men who have since been convicted of terrorist offences and were also close to Naveed Akram, according to sources with close knowledge of the matter.

Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

Say what you want about guns in Australia, had these been automatic weapons the toll would have been much, much higher. This is the first time we've had an event like this since 1996.
This gets repeated a lot, but it isn’t quite true. While nothing has approached the scale of Port Arthur, Australia has had several significant public shootings since 1996, including Monash University in 2002, the Lindt Café siege in 2014, Osmington in 2018, Darwin in 2019, and Wieambilla in 2022.

These incidents are rare and spread out over decades, which supports the effectiveness of Australia’s gun laws, but it’s inaccurate to say this is the first event of its kind since 1996.

Australian gun laws are also widely misunderstood with many thinking they're banned. Civilian ownership is legal but tightly regulated through licensing, background checks, genuine reason requirements, and strict storage rules.

(apologies if someone already said this, I haven't made it through all the comments yet )

I figured it was ISIS related as soon as I saw the Facebook posts showing Naveed was a Salafi Sunni Islamist.

Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

That guy sneaking up behind one of the shooters is a fucking hero, absolute balls of steel. Unbelievable!
No, he's an absolut fucking moron.

He let the shooter get away, back to the bridge, to continue the rampage. By letting him leave the shooters possibly killed more people.

I would have shot him in the head.

The brave citizen should have pulled the trigger immediately after seizing the gun from the sand arab.

Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

Sajid Akram, 50, and son Naveed Akram, 24, have been identified as the alleged gunmen behind the attack. Sajid apperently owned a fruit shop and the guy that tackled him and took his gun away, also owned a fruit shop? What are the bloody chances!!!!

Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

This is a brutal, random crime marked by treachery and utterly devoid of any justification. There is no doubt that the attackers were driven by revenge for the massacres being committed against Palestinians, who are being killed and displaced by the millions in the most horrific ways. However, confronting the occupation cannot be done through such methods, which violate Islamic teachings and also undermine the impact on public opinion that has begun to recognize the ugly face of the occupation.
Islamic teachings?

Yeah, sure, because we all know how fond Muslims are of Christians and the Western World.

Re: Bondi, Sydney - Mass Shooting

This is right on. Unfortunately, most people don’t want to hear facts & statistics. They want to cherry pick information to justify their own hateful beliefs.
The problem with the analysis is what is the definition of "right wing". Many of the 'recent' shootings have been trans kids completely with extreme emotional issues; and looking at past history also has the problem of not taking into account the most recent demographic changes.

There have been an increase of Muslim violence in all countries. People who have migrated to countries they do not agree with, do not want to assimilate into; but rather promote and 'change' the culture of their new living space (not home) with sharia law at the hand of violence.

Allahu Akbar (الله أكبر) literally means "God is greater," implying my god is greater than yours!

Mark my words - "We have only seen the tip of the iceberg here regarding Muslim violence in western countries."

I do not believe either of these TERRORISTS were just mentally unhinged. Nor do I believe the "right wing" bull crap. LEFT Marxist Antifa burns cars, loots shops, destroys hard working small business because they want to throw a tantrum about some believed misfortune. AND You don't see Christian, Hindu, Jewish, or other religion saying openly "we are here to kill non believers in our faith/cause" NOT all Muslims are terrorists, but most of the recent terrorist acts have been purported by Muslims. I am personally tired of the lie that Muslims are peaceful. If you are a true Allah, Quran believing Muslim - you are (must) be out for blood of those who do not believe or worse leave the Muslim faith. I also hear from people saying Muslims believe in the Bible just like Christians, they believe in Jesus. That is 100% incorrect, they believe Jesus was a prophet (just a man), they don't believe in the trinity or Jesus the messiah. The Quran uses the WORD messiah, but the meaning is completely different. NOT divinity but instead someone of unique mission, 'anointed one', 'chosen one' but NOT a spirit or part of any god.

So the original poster whom Kellyhound was responding to was making some truthful points. The sunni and shia Muslims have fought to the death over the successor to the Prophet Muhammad. And both sides believe they are correct, and anyone that disagrees with their view should face death. He was also truthfully noting that the Left leaning believe in peaceful Muslims, and anyone who sees fault with Islam is Islamophobic - and these same people typically turn right around with anti-Semite comments and beliefs. Or use Zionist as a slur. Jesus was and is a Zion, just ask him when he returns and rules from Jerusalem.
