Bodycam Footage of Deputy Shooting Man at Santa Clarita Mall
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at approximately 10:58 PM, Santa Clarita Station deputies responded to a shopping center located in the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard, in Santa Clarita, regarding a call of a male who was trespassing. Additional information indicated the male was sleeping in front of the business and refused to leave. The male was later identified as 50-year-old C. L. M. Upon arrival, a deputy contacted M in front of the business and asked him to leave the area. M refused and threatened to kill her. Mercurio advanced toward the deputy and punched her in the face and head. The deputy used self-defense techniques and created distance between her and M; however, he continued to advance toward her, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. M. was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. Assisting deputies arrived and immediately rendered medical aid to M. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded and transported M. to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The deputy was also transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained during the assault. She was later released. No other persons were injured during this incident. This incident was deemed a qualifying event under Assembly Bill 1506 guidelines. Members of the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, were notified of the incident and investigators responded to the scene. Members of DOJ were briefed by LASD homicide investigators and assumed control of the crime scene and investigation. |

Re: Bodycam Footage of Deputy Shooting Man at Santa Clarita Mall
Normally, doing this poses a higher risk of missing and in any situation where you feel your service weapon is necessary, you aim for center mass for higher change of hitting...so, no. That would be stupid. HOWEVER, as close as she was and as slow as he was moving, it may have been a possible option, BUT also another option would have been to defuse the situation by retreating to her vehicle if she knew she was too small and big man was too scary before letting it get to the point where he attacked her. She was clearly not qualified to be alone, and should have called for backup, then officers might have had a chance to detain him / tase him.... (once again) BUT guy was severely mentally ill or on drugs or both to take two to the chest and not even flinch so he might have ended up shot anyways. Who fucking knows. Guy was clearly a menace, and her being a stupid tiny coward who blasted him in the heart for being scary was probably best for society regardless. |

Did you see how this guy took the first couple of shots like nothing had hit him? That is why you go for the critical mass. A wounded person can still be dangerous
