A gold plated 1911 in anything other than 45 or 10 mil doesn’t seem to do it gun justice in my book.

Look at the length of the shell casing, it's slender and longer than a .45 cal cartridge so it definitely is a 38 special, a caliber much appreciated by Mexicans, they love their Colt 38 specials and use to put a lot of ornaments on them as can be shown in that pistol.
