Ecuador. A shooting at a local billiard hall has left 6 people dead and 2 others seriously injured.

The attack occurred late Saturday night, shortly before a scheduled nightly curfew was set to take effect across the Los Ríos province.

Witnesses reported that heavily armed individuals stormed the establishment at approximately 8:40 PM. National Police units arriving at the scene discovered a massacre, collecting 77 ballistic casings that underscored the violence of the assault.

The six deceased individuals, who police confirmed had no prior criminal records, have been identified as Yadira G.C, 33, Willian H.S, 20, Aníbal T.V, 38, Pedro B.M, 50, Julio H.B, 53 and Pedro B.T, 70.

According to preliminary police investigations, the gunmen were searching for the owner of the billiard hall.

When they realized their target was not on the premises, the attackers reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on the patrons.

Two other men, ages 26 and 56, survived the shooting with injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local health facility.

Several cantons in the coastal provinces are currently under a state of emergency and strict curfew due to ongoing gang violence.

Jeez. I haven't even been here all that long and this is at least the dozenth South American pool hall massacre I've seen.

On one hand I wish we had more of a billiards culture left in American.. on the other hand, I'd never step foot in one if I were in any Latin American country.

Damn shame they go and ruin a fun place like that.
