A Russian motorcyclist, 38, flew into the side of an overtaking BMW at full speed. After the powerful blow, the motorcycle was thrown in the direction of the oncoming Ford Transit, breaking through its windshield.

From his injuries, A.K died on the spot. The BMW driver was not injured. "We now have grief in the family. The driver of the BMW brutally violated the rules and made a collision with my brother. My brother used to be a traffic police officer, he has a wife and a child," said the sister of the deceased.

Somehow insurance companies will still blame this on the motorcyclist.

~ As one can see, the white car overtaking, misjudged, saw the motorcyclist & tried to avoid him by going as far left as it could in the opposing lane, but the motorcyclist also misjudged and just stayed in the middle of the lane, and couldn't avoid hitting the side of the overtaking white car.
~ Both the overtaking car & motorcyclist misjudged each other.
~ Moral Learned & Earned: Underestimated rush-ing to get ahead will only forward you into misjudged trouble, either way, on a two-way road.

If the motorcyclist had momentarily moved into the right portion of their lane and clicked on their high beam three seconds before the crash, the BMW driver may have had a better chance of seeing the motorcycle coming towards him. Changing lane position changes line-of-sight, thus offering a motorist more time and distance to see the motorcycle. Additionally, a bright light attracts more attention than a dimmer one. BMW sees motorcycle, aborts the pass on the sedan. Its all about conspicuity.
One thing I noticed when replaying the vid is the motorcyclist, seeing the car in his lane, starts a move toward his right and into the cars' path-of-travel. This is a common error, as the motorcyclist target-fixates on the one thing they're trying to avoid, which in most cases is the wrong thing to do. The car was braking and moving to the shoulder of the road as a collision avoidance maneuver, and the motorcyclist, sensing imminent doom, ensured a collision by moving further right. Most of the time a motorcyclist does not execute a skill properly, or worse, does nothing to avoid a crash. In this incidence, he actually may have done more harm than good by improperly executing his avoidance maneuver.
Does this obsolve the car driver of liability? Absolutely not. The BMW violated the motorcyclist's path-of-travel and failed to yield right-of-way to the motorcyclist. I'm just saying the motorcyclist had more of a say in the outcome of this tragic incident than first noted.

He should have veered to his left a bit more. He would have been clear of the car.

They say in a crash like this, steer to the direction the oncoming was coming from. Because it's common for oncoming to steer to your right side. As you also steer to your right side and then you both crash.
Some good vids I've come across with drivers moving correctly and avoiding head on/side glance accidents.

Not that I'm a pro in Russian road rules, but I believe that the overtaking car should have checked for clear road ahead, prior to executing such a maneuver.
