Re: Benny "The Kid" Paret Calls Emile Griffith a "Maricón" Before Their 1962 Title Fight
When he draws his knees towards his chest, that is called decorticate flexion. It's from brain damage and swelling. He was dead standing up

Re: Benny "The Kid" Paret Calls Emile Griffith a "Maricón" Before Their 1962 Title Fight
Oh wow what a great post! I enjoy classic fights very much and I was not familiar with this one until just now. What a beating and the Fullmer beating to Paret was brutal, i'm assuming the fight with fullmer was a non tital one since paret was still champ when he fought griffith. Awesome videos, are you going to post the boom boom mancini one soon? He lives in the same town as me and i've seen him before since I use to set up boxing rings for the figh promoter that I know since I use to do MMA fights. So that would be interesting to see.

Re: Benny "The Kid" Paret Calls Emile Griffith a "Maricón" Before Their 1962 Title Fight
It was a title fight, but not for Parets welterweight belt, it was only fr Fullmers middleweight belt Fullmer was the middleweight champion and Paret was the welterweight champion Paret stepped up a weight class to fight Fullmer which was a tremendous mistake So if Paret had beat Fullmer he would hold both belts, if he lost he would retain his welterweight belt and Fullmer would successfully defend his belt against Paret. If Paret had two baseball bats instead of boxing gloves in each hand with him in the ring, Fullmer would have still beat the living piss out of him Parets manager was pushing Paret way beyond his limits as a fighter Even other fighters were telling Paret "Dont move up and fight Fullmer, its like punching a brick wall, you could hit him 100 times in a row and he would just laugh. Oh and he also hits harder then 99% of the heavyweight fighters" I always look at the face of old lady sitting ringside when Fullmer has Paret against the ropes and keeps throwing powerful rights to the head and body one after the other When Fullmer lands a body shot that can be heard for miles, she shakes her head in disgust and closes her eyes as if she is saying "Good god why did they let him in the ring with Fullmer?" Paret should have never fought again after the beating he took from Fullmer, yet a couple months later he is in the ring with Griffith Just a tragic series of events that lead to his death |

I have never seen such tremendous pounding in boxing until now...exceptional strenght and stamina. For sure Paret`s later death had something to do with this infernal beating. Really, thank you for posting these videos! |

12 rounds?! Jesus christ no wonder he fucking died So how exactly would you die from that? besides obviously taking too many blows to the head, what would it be? brain damage or internal bleeding? |

Re: Benny "The Kid" Paret Calls Emile Griffith a "Maricón" Before Their 1962 Title Fight
All title fights before 1983 were scheduled for 15 rounds, so this fight STILL had 3 rounds to go! Rob666 correctly said this on the 1st page |

Those don't look like conscience movements. Looks more like severe brain damage. Most likely a severe hemorrage. When he got locked in that corner his fate was sealed.

Re: Benny "The Kid" Paret Calls Emile Griffith a "Maricón" Before Their 1962 Title Fight
Thanks for the info. I did look it up and you are quite right. Since the onset was so quick I would assume it's more likely intracranial hemorrhage. It didn't happen when he first went down either. I have seen other types of posturing when a person is severely injured that happens instantly. I feel kind of bad for the guy. He used a chicken shit tactic that backfired. I think he realized he was outclassed which is why he used such a lame and disrespectful tactic. Too bad he paid for it with his life. He should never of been in the ring with that guy. |
