Well it's all about the Qur'an. If Islam is informed by the Qur'an, then it's what's written in the Qur'an that inspires this type of violence. The Qur'an mandates the murder of homosexuals, apostates, adulterers, and blasphemers. That is the true Islam according to the Qur'an. So the Muslims that are anti-violence are the ones going against the scripture itself.
The very same thing goes for Christianity. The old Testament was extremely violent and had quite similar penalties for the crimes of same nature. Some people eventually realized how evil the old testament was, and wrote a NEW testament which was update to reflect a better sense of morality at that time. Which is still an extremely immoral book that validates slavery, and trading people which are "possessions".

So you can't really say that "Islam" does say anything about killing people if the religion is informed by the Qur'an. Sure, there are moderate, peaceful Muslims that IGNORE all the violent shit in the Qur'an and just want a peaceful life, but that doesn't mean that it is not still written in the Qur'an itself.

Also, you said "Shiia" are from back in the barbarian days..... well so is every other religious denomination. Educate yourself. Don't take my word for it. Read the Qur'an yourself, and you will see just how violent and immoral it is.

That's not the whole story , the people who normally do the beheadings, are the Wahhabi and Salafi Sunnis . 1000s of innocent Shias have been killed in Pakistan and Iraq by these people, because they consider them "heretics" and "Rafidah" (Rejectors).

However , even though many victims of Islamic terrorism are Shia Muslims, both sects have suffered. The only country where they are treated equally is Azerbaijan, probably the most liberal muslim country that exists.

In Saudi Arabia Shias are oppressed, and in Iran Sunnis are Oppressed.
