Re: Bakersfield, CA Tree Trimmer Fatal Accident
Probably from asphyxiation, but I like Necrotic Bowels answer better.

Re: Bakersfield, CA Tree Trimmer Fatal Accident
So, Let me get this right. The palm fronds were up and he was underneath them? They just fell? I live in Florida and I've never heard of anything like this.

Re: Bakersfield, CA Tree Trimmer Fatal Accident
Literally, how the fuck did this guy get trapped? Also been around palm trees for most of my life, and I’ve only known of someone who died because the palm tree fell on them. Never seen this weird murderous bush. This must have been a horrible way to die. |

Re: Bakersfield, CA Tree Trimmer Fatal Accident
I watched nearly the whole video on the edge of my seat thinking it was gonna be one of the guys from body retrieval service here who accidentally chainsawed the other guy (or himself) in the nuts or neck or something but the dude was hidden in the thatch and already dead |

Re: Bakersfield, CA Tree Trimmer Fatal Accident
This mechanism of death has happened before and been reported well. A professional arborist should know of the risk and adopt a suitable strategy. However as had been suggested, sometimes palm frond clearing is done by people without professional training, skills and experience. The 'rescue' described in this case, took so long that the climber would have died even without suffering crush injuries and asphyxiation. (Spending a sustained period in a harness with circulation to the legs affected by the harness, produces a deadly condition known as 'suspension trauma'). I believe that crews that work at heights should have rescue training and equipment so that, as a team, they can rescue their own. Alternatively work crews should alert each other in an emergency because the authorities are incapable of effecting a rapid technical response. |
