Here's my opinion without using Google. It sounds to me like there's a waterfall that probably feeds into the waterhole.
Some areas like that end up with a sort of drain hole somewhere at the bottom and empties somewhere further down hill. It creates a pretty strong suction that can be very difficult to pull away from. It looks to me like there was a log stuck down on the drain, but there was still enough suction to hold the one kid. At some point, the log got knocked loose, which intensified the suction and pulled in the other 2 kids. Then the log floated away

First drowning kid is exhibiting classic drowning behavior; "climbing a ladder" motions, no noise. Trying to rescue someone who is panicking while drowning is likely to fail unless the rescuer is very well trained. The drowning person clings to you and drowns you with them.

Kind of looks like there is a deeper area to the left where the kids can't feel the bottom, and that's why they drown there.

This is probably the most likely explanation or perhaps some sort of undercurrent. If it was a croc attack you would probably see it at the surface doing some sort of death roll. Also note the lack of blood.
