also it could be the combo bad swimmer and poor condition or unfamiliar with much cooler water resulting in shock, esp in lakes with deep water and areas with (karstic) springs.
You can have a surface spring or more higher up, and 1 or more lakebed springs. They are usally under the streams low water level, not visible, and can have different drainage area (temperature).
There might be even some conduit pipes formed by solution of limestone. These pipes can act as an underground melt water highway, slower than rainfall surface runoff. The delay btw. melting and outflow through a conduit can be several hours, to several days.

There are castes in India for a reason. My son's college has a lot of Indian students, only partially due to their "inclusive" policies. Almost all of them are from northern India where the higher castes dominate in land ownership and government.

There's one incredibly awesome anecdote about Von Neumann told by Scientist Herman Goldstine, about a young mathematician who went to Aberdeen to ask scientists for help on a problem, none of them could find a solution, then the mathematician asked them permission to use the computer, so this guy spent all night working on the problem and finally solved it the following morning, he thanked the scientists and at that moment Von Neumann entered the room greeting them and asking them what was up.
So Goldstine told him about the problem as if they didn't have a solution and Johnny said: "Let me see if I can help you" (Von Neumann was known for always trying to find a solution to problems)
Goldstine refers that Neumann studied the problem and after a few minutes said that it didn't appear to have a symbolic solution, so it was probably a numerical one, after that he began mumbling numbers and after about a minute he found a solution, two minutes later the second, then five minutes later the third and when he was midway working on the fourth the young mathematician said: "26.7 Dr. Von Neumann" to which Von Neumann said "Huh?" and his mumbling of numbers went frantical and after a little while he said: "Yes, you're right it's 26.7" and he kept punching his fist against his palm and asking rethorically "How did he found the solution so quickly? how?"

Goldstine said they let Von Neuman wonder about it for about an hour and finally told him the young mathematician had spent half a day at the computer to find the solution, such was the genius of Von Neumann, one of my favorite scientists!

They were not geniuses—they just stole from the Germans.

If anyone was a genius, it was an actual, bonafide German by the name of Wernher von Braun—and he was no Jew.
