"Sucky" slain at Shanty's Bar in Penal as gunmen unleash terror using high-powered weapons A 23-year-old labourer was shot and killed, and a 55-year-old man wounded, after four gunmen opened fire at a popular bar in Penal on Sunday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Isaiah John, of Hibiscus Drive, Penal. The injured man, Daran Thompson, a welder from Mon Diablo, Penal, sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and remains warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. According to police, around 2:15 p.m. on August 3rd, a report of multiple gunshots was relayed via wireless transmission from the E999 Police Command Centre. Officers from the Penal Police Station responded and proceeded to Shantilal Bar at 11 Lachoos Road, Penal. Upon arrival officers were told that around 2:00 p.m., several loud explosions were heard. Moments later, Johm was discovered lying motionless beneath a gaming machine on the southern side of the building, and Thompson injured in the toilet area. The District Medical Officer visited, pronounced John dead, and ordered the removal of his body to the Forensic Science Centre pending a post-mortem examination. The scene was photographed and processed, and investigators recovered a significant amount of ballistic evidence, including: Thirteen (13) spent 5.56 shell casings One (1) live 5.56 round Eleven (11) spent 9mm shell casings One (1) live 9mm round Investigations revealed that John was liming outside the bar when a white Nissan Tiida (registration unknown) pulled up. Four armed men exited the vehicle and opened fire on him. John ran inside the bar, but the gunmen followed, continuing to shoot before escaping in a southern direction along Lachoos Road.
