7 People Died & 37 KG of Fish Spilled on the Road when Fish Cart Hit Dumptruck
Philippines, March 12. Seven people died when the fish cart they were riding collided with a dump truck in Davao City on that Saturday morning. The fatalities were identified as Abdurahim Jara, Benjamin Loculan Jr., Merhamen Lajabangsa, Alkarim Sarang, Tata Ijara, driver Genisse Cabalquinto, and fish cart owner, retired Senior Police Officer 1 Danilo Calanza. The fish cart, an Elf truck was bound for the Bankerohan Public Market from Basilan province when the accident happened at 10 a.m. along Sitio Pagan Grande, Barangay Tamugan in Marilog District. Zaldy Maliño, who witnessed the accident, said the fish cart was traveling very fast when it overshot at the curve portion of the road and slammed into the dump truck carrying sand. According to Shariff Julabbi, the victims were supposed to deliver 37 kilograms of fish from Basilan to the public market. Julabbi was on board another fish cart that was on its way back to Basilan. He suspected that the victims were rushing to deliver the fish to the public market. The dump truck driver, 30-year-old Junel Cantila, is now under police custody. |
