Re: The 4th Victim in the Ups Shootout
Basically yes, the Use of Force Contiuum was developed specifically for these types of situations so these kinds of things can be avoided. Knowing when and when not to escalate things is key for everyone's safety, not just the officers involved. 19 officers in a shootout in the middle of a busy intersection?? I've never heard of that being a thing unless the entire area was able to be cleared of any passing civilians, which...as you can see they did a horrible job doing. What happened here was the lemming syndrome. 1 fired then 18 more thought they had to as well. What they SHOULD have done was shut them down before this truck even made it there, or back off during the pursuit let the truck keep going so it doesn't end up stopped in one of the worst possible places and a shootout erupting. And to those of you saying, what? And just let them get away? As you can see in the video, they had a bird's eye view from the police and news choppers that were flying overhead. This was...in my opinion...a complete and utter failure by many, many police officers of Miami-Dade that day. |

Re: The 4th Victim in the Ups Shootout
I had a very long post on the other thread but deleted it. I agree this was an absolute failure. They had no plan. They were in chase for more than 20 miles, they had time to make a plan. I'm shocked there weren't any officers shot by other officers. The fact that only one bystander was killed is a miracle. Listen to the bullets zip by these guys filming, while at least a dozen other people were walking along the street. I have never seen a worse managed incident than this one. Chaos ruled. I would point out something that went right, but nothing fucking went right. |

Yep, should have canceled the pursuit and gone into tracking mode at least until they could have isolated the truck by shutting down the freeway. They obviously had enough units to do so. Looked like close to 50 cruisers in that aerial shot.

Re: The 4th Victim in the Ups Shootout
First I was seeing one moron filming in portrait, then him filming in portrait, then one of the most dramatic voice overs i ever heard on this site. That was straight up piano wire tension. Nice clip. I think one of the dudes had a very different idea of the friendship than the other.
