Re: 3 Friends Record Themselves Drowning In Pond

I've heard that for people who can't tread water, it's like they are trying to grab onto something solid to hold themselves up but there's nothing to grab so they panic. The panic makes them sink and inhale water which just snowballs the entire process until they eventually drown. You will see in videos of 2 or more people that can't swim they cling to each other, pushing each other under; they will literally grab onto anything solid while in a state of panic.

As someone who can swim I can't imagine what it would be like for someone who can't, but that got me thinking. The closest thing I can imagine it being like, is if I was in a zero gravity environment, and trying to grab onto something solid, with nothing solid to grab within reach. A can imagine a sense of helplessness and panic set in.

Wait. So I’m an okay swimmer. And that’s how it feels to me. Like trying to grab nothing. But when I’m in my zone it doesn’t matter I just “go” and I feel weightless. What I’m asking now is. To avid swimmers, does the water feel different? Does the water have a more substantial feeling?

I’m a world class swimmer. You have to become one with the water. If you listen, it will tell you all you need to know. What direction to swim, how much pressure to exert. Don’t fight it. Be like water, my fiend

Jesus. Having known how to swim from the age of 2, I simply cannot understand floundering around one yard from the edge of a pond. I know it happens, but, it's actually too much for me to understand. I feel sorry for their moms.
You cant really drown if you grow up around water. You develop drown proof lungs from all the swimming

Fuck! I know this is the way drowning works but as a very strong swimmer myself it is impossible for me to understand how you could drown in calm water a few feet from the shore. But I think this is pretty common in a country where personal and public safety are not taught. Poor mothers of these boys. What a waste.
