It was in the rectangular pool in our apartment complex, which was about 3 feet deep on the shallow end and 8 feet deep on the deep end. Went swimming just a few weeks ago, too, and it was fun, but getting dunked or flipped off the floatie chairs would trigger instant adrenaline, almost panic, and I couldn't actually swim for shit. I think that's just how it is with some people, in that being in the water just doesn't come naturally no matter how safe or comfortable they might feel initially. Put 3 such people in a pond like in this video, and they'll all be fucked.

I've heard that for people who can't tread water, it's like they are trying to grab onto something solid to hold themselves up but there's nothing to grab so they panic. The panic makes them sink and inhale water which just snowballs the entire process until they eventually drown. You will see in videos of 2 or more people that can't swim they cling to each other, pushing each other under; they will literally grab onto anything solid while in a state of panic.

As someone who can swim I can't imagine what it would be like for someone who can't, but that got me thinking. The closest thing I can imagine it being like, is if I was in a zero gravity environment, and trying to grab onto something solid, with nothing solid to grab within reach. A can imagine a sense of helplessness and panic set in.

How on earth is it possible that you drown like that? That water had absolutely no current? If that is correct I am at a complete loss of words on how is it your not able to paddle your feet to keep your head above water. You shouldn't need swimming lessons to figure that out, right? Or do you need someone to educate you that your body floats just a frog paddle is all you need to move around in the water?
