Re: 2012 Shooting of Milton Hall

legal or not, the cops were cowards here. the guy looked like he was maybe 5'5", and he WALKED a step or two to the side, not towards the cops. was he LEGALLY and TECHNICALLY not allowed to do that? sure. but just because the cops had the legal/technical option to fire, doesn't mean it was a decision that i can support, every time, no questions asked.
i'll tell you this, i'm not even a tough guy, but if i had a kevlar vest on and kevlar gloves, a cocked and loaded pistol in my hand, a belt with a taser/cuffs/pepper spray on it, and there were 6-8 guys next to me with the same armament, i wouldn't have pissed my pants due to that guy's actions in the video, period. at the time he was shot it is a very big stretch to say he was an ACTUAL "threat". technically, yes, he had a little knife and resisted arrest, but in the context of that video clip, the cops fucked up.
i really don't feel like i have a "gut hatred of cops", its just that i never have been one, so i am free to observe their actions in an unbiased manner. i understand they have to, and should, use deadly force quite often. but in this case they did not have to, and i'm calling them on it.
You've got a gut hatred/distrust toward cops...trust me. The reason they hire guys like me to make judgements and testify in these types of cases is exactly because you were never a police officer and have no real idea what you're saying. What you choose to call an "unbiased opinion", is actually an "uneducated opinion". Sorry, but in this case experience, education, and court room presence is what counts. My opinions are not automatically in favor of the officers...but I do given them the initial benefit of doubt. Sometimes the officers are dead wrong and I'll say that...but most of the videos I've seen here on DR have been good shoots and good uses of force. I try to educate you guys on what's going on, but nobody pays any attention and then accuses me of always favoring the officers. This is how I make my money, now that I'm retired, and I've been doing it for a long time even when I was still working...I really do know what I'm talking about. But that's fine, go ahead a feel for the bad guy...that's your right...weep for the criminal and blame the cops. That's super easy. Don't try to educate yourself on what your tax dolls pay for, just point at the funny fat policemen, laugh, and find fault. Far be it from me to try an enlighten the Generation X'ers or Generation Y'ers you guys don't understand anything unless you read it on the Internet. It's like I always say, you can wish something was different, but the reality is what the reality is...sorry.

Re: 2012 Shooting of Milton Hall

I'm pro-police officer yet I have to ask this question:

Why didn't they use taser(s) on the dude? Law enforcement tasers have an effective range of up to 21 feet. The police officers would have been well out of the dude's striking range by a good distance. The dude would have dropped the knife immediately and dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes.

It's a very valid question. I honestly don't think they had them...can you believe that one? But a lot of agencies don't...especially agencies that are small or poor. When I first started in the early eighties our supervisors had them, but the projectiles (needles) were powered by gunpowder not air like they are now. And they had to charge because the electrode and crapy flashlight were powered by a rechargeable battery. Back then, you could zap a guy with the gun powder powered projectile or you could extend two antennas and touch the guy with those for a contact zap. They didn't really work great and were way too heavy to wear...they were kept in the sergeant's trunk along with body armor and a few AR's, the 37mm gas gun, etc. Real Adam-12 technology. Even if they had Tasers, depending on the wind issues, the Taser might not have hit Mr. Hall. A beanbag shotgun would have been ideal, but I'm guessing they didn't have one of those either. Hell they could have thrown rocks at him, but they didn't. Sometimes it just boils down to doing what you're told...the reality is that Mr. Hall was worth way more dead than alive. He failed to do what he was told to do and threatened the lives of officers...oh well. His mom and family couldn't or wouldn't take care of him...why do we expect the police to?

Pepper spray, tasers, batons, pepper paintballs, firehose, police dog......see what im getting at here. Its true you shouldnt draw a weapon, especially something so pussy, on cops, but the cops seem to forget about their taser and spray if theyre not dealing with a pregnant woman or 13 year old.

Tell me...have you read any of the previous comments? If they don't have Tasers, pepper paint ball guns, bean bag guns, a fire hose, etc. Then it's difficult to us those things...duh. They did what they could do given what they had to work with. Read the fuck'n prior comments before commenting.

Re: 2012 Shooting of Milton Hall

This "white man" thinks that 46 bullets to the "black man's body is excessive. Those bastard cops all wanted to simply shoot and kill someone so that they could put another notch on their gun butts. In this day and age, that situation as I seen it, could have been dealt with 'NON LETHAL' methods. Dogs-[on scene], tazers-[8 cops= 8 tazers, rubber bullets, sharpshooters, negotiators, to name a few other options. Firing that number of shots in a crowed area-[onlookers] was foolish and stupid.:disgust

Re: 2012 Shooting of Milton Hall

I'm sorry, I can't solve this math problem. They never taught me in math class how to shove a number up a dead man's ass.
If the number was pi maybe you give it a go???

Re: 2012 Shooting of Milton Hall

One of the cops should have shot the pen knife out of the dude's hand - that cop would have been an instant celebrity.
yeahhhhh if only that were reality, in reality he wouldve destroyed the mans hand at least and been fired
