11 Killed when Tanker Truck with Faulty Brakes Slams into Traffic
Iran. At least 11 people were killed and 7 others injured after a fuel tanker crashed and exploded on a highway in western Iran last Saturday. The accident occurred on the Hamedan-Sanandaj highway, near the capital of Iran’s Kurdistan province. The tanker was travelling from Hamedan towards Marivan when it crashed, exploded and caught fire. The governor said preliminary information indicated that a technical fault in the tanker’s braking system had caused the accident. The resulting fire was brought under control by emergency crews. Iran’s National Oil Products Distribution Company later said the precise cause of the accident remained under expert investigation, meaning the reported brake failure should be treated as a preliminary finding rather than a conclusion. Several nearby vehicles were also caught in the fire, while the injured were taken to medical facilities for treatment. Authorities continued recovery and safety operations at the scene. This accident occurred on a route, where another deadly tanker crash in 2018 killed at least 13 people after a fuel tanker collided with a passenger bus. |
