It depends on where the spinal cord damage occurs. Anything above c5 can cause death shortly after the injury. The phrenic nerve originates around there and innervates the diaphragm which controls your breathing, hence why damage can often be deadly.

I’ve actually had something like this happen ( I was the uninjured opponent) and quite honestly it didn’t bother me. A guy tried to bridge on neck when I had him in side control, and all of a sudden stopped fighting and started screaming. The parallel here is it wasn’t something I did, rather something my opponent tried that hurt him. Same thing here, blue shirt didn’t really initiate anything, his opponent went for a flying armbar, probably a top 3 highest risk move in all of grappling sports. I think it’d be different if per say blue was cranking on the guys neck and fucked him up, then I could see him being traumatized, but here I think it’s just a reminder of the nature of combat sports.
