This is an old practice in China, PerkDaddy. The women who practice this are called "Lotus Feet" and this is done to make the feet look 'delicate' (in their eyes at least).In old China,small feet was almost always related with nobility, hence, those with lotus feet are considered exquisitely beautiful. Sadly, the women with "lotus feet" are usually the common victims of fires because they are unable to walk as fast as we do.

It was an old ritual in china i think. The smaller your feet were the more wealthy and attractive you were. So they started doing that from childhood.

Unfortunately this is a form of abuse/self mutilation. It's what's called Chinese footbinding. It used to be a common practice and was done to make the foot impossiblely small for the purpose of being attractive to men. Footbinding starts when the women is a small child or baby and it takes years to achieve these results. I believe the process is now banned as it should be since it's forced upon small children and is quite painfull.
