Sadly girls have this done at a young age. They have their feet soaked in some concoction of blood and herbs to make them supple, then they are bound with bandages (soaked in the blood) to the point when the feet/toes break. The bindings are changed on a regular basis and bound tighter and tighter. The girls are expected to work regardless even with broken feet and toes. This was done as they thought that with small feet they would be more desirable to men. Barbaric treatment imo  |

In old china it was ugly for a women to have large feet. Only tiny feet were acceptable. At birth there feet were bound so tight they could not grown normally and only fit the shape they were bind in.
